Were Doomed 11 comments

Well, it’s official. We’re doomed. The socialist, err, democratic president has been elected. The real problem is that the Democrats hold a majority of the Senate, too. Only time will tell what kind of things they will pass just because they can.

Hmm..socialism. Let's see, that includes the Fire Dept, Police (mostly worthless but good if your car gets stolen), Trash Pickup (you had this at one time), that Pell Grant you had for a while, public parks, streets, bridges, public infrastructure, research grants (which eventually gave us the Inter-web), medicare (it pays the hospice bills which gives your company work), um... yea.

The Federal Reserve and FCC are Marxist planks too.

Oh and just for the record, if Obama does decide to subsidize health care, my company isn't going away. BlueCross will become a government contractor, just like Medicare does now.

Our society is built on socialism. I'm not saying it's right. I wish we had more private school competing and that competition among doctors made health insurance unnecessary, but I am saying no one is a self made man and Obama won't add any more socialism than we don't all ready have.

Also, he can make being peaceful not seem like a weakness;the idea of being peaceful makes you wimpy. That is what won it for him in the debates.

Well put Sumit. Though both of you are completely off on the key problem with every main candidate since Clinton... spendaholism. It's a travesty that it became out of fashion to actually balance a budget and spend less than you make; this idiocy has been razing our economy at every level for the last several years now. If we could restore our rights taken away over the last 8 years and drop about 50% of the government, run what we do need under a truly fiscally conservative regime (none of the new-age "conservatives" that plague the republican party) then we could actually convert things to be viable private companies under government contracts, like the health insurance companies will inevitably become.

What we should be focusing on is _true_fiscal_conservatism_. No more bullshit spending to make people happy for the next 3 minutes but setting us up for an anal-raping in a few years. Had we had a real opponent 8 years ago to run against Bush (no, mr globalwarming profiteer Al Gore doesn't count as a real opponent) and been able to avoid having Bush set us up for this kick in the ass we've gotten... we would be able to do things because we wouldn't have already flailed all the money we could print out the sides of jet fighters and warships.

@CC I agree with you on that. I am all for limited government. To be honest Obama was not my candidate. I wrote in Mike Gravel and Ron Paul. In TN it didn't really matter anyway. In GA it might have been worth it to vote strategically, but here I would rather vote for the candidate I liked.

We spend trillions on nation defense. Take half of that chunk and move it to the blip that is education or small business/community development. You know what they should have done with that $700 billion bailout? Well nothing; should have never happened. But if it had it, they should have offered small business loans to people with less than $20k in assets, frozen mortgage interests rates and given the power to judges to adjust the value of a house back to reasonable amounts. Not bailout banks that need to fail, liquidate their assets and sell their worthless house loans back to consumers for pennies on the dollar.

We have troops in 160 of the 190 countries in this world. We need to cut all that, take a hatchet to the trillions of defense waste, pull all the troops home, stop giving Bowing $2 billion for a $1.2 million fighter jet.

But even with all that, even if we cut it all out and have years of surplus and limited government and give the National Guard back over as state militias, there will still be debt. The way the Federal Reserve Bank is setup, there is no possibly way for the US government to every pay off out national debt. Almost all tax revenue goes to pay the interest on that debt.

This nation is built on debt since the Federal Reserve Act and debt = slavery.

The last president that tried to go back to coining silver with an executive order, was John F Kennedy.

Well either way it goes, my taxes are going to go up; we're still going to be at "war" in 4 years; I'm not going to get any additional benefits over anyone else; while i can hope for universal health care, i am very certain that one term is not "enough" to get it implemented...

And i do have valid fears about losing the ability to buy more rifles, even though the supreme court has guaranteed our individual right to bear arms. Nothing like some good old fashioned socialism to outlaw weapons so that only outlaws can have them.

I see the next four years as not really any different as before, except the amount of taxes i pay is getting slowly closer to what Canadia and Europes pay.

While i like the fire department, postal service and whatnot, there has got to be a better way to do things outside of the services i want to pay to use. I have no problem paying for services i might use. At that point, there is no difference between paying for my local fire department and paying taxes and having the local government pay the fire department. Well, there is and that's because there is a fucked up political border about 250 feet from my house that makes the smaller, further away fire department service my house, not the larger and closer one in Cookeville.

I'm pretty sure i'm never going to use a war in the middle east. I'm never going to want to bail out a bank or insurance company. Balancing the budget sounds like a good idea. You know, like an accountant does. Not just RAWWRR MURR MUNNEY!

While we are mostly capitalist, we have a lot of socialist tendencies. We should be one or the other. It works out so much better for everyone.

For one, Hillary predicted 8 years to "lay the groundwork" for universal healthcare. And she was far more pro-healthcare than Obama, so there almost certainly will not be any change on that.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
There wasn't any more planned taxes unless you make over $250,000... and if you do, I really want to work where you work. Taxes might rise back to pre-Bush tax levels for everyone once his tax-cuts die out, but that would have happened under Republicans too because they also want to spend like holy fucking hell. The $700Billion bailout that BOTH parties jumped on like a fat kid on candy is the reason taxes will go up. That's more than double the deficit of a single year, all allocated in a single day. GG govt.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
Lastly, I still haven't figured out where you're seeing a connection between socialism and rifles. Socialism (n): any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods. Nowhere in there is anything about taking away guns. Ironically, the party that is the most for guns is also the most against women's right for abortion, gay rights to do as they please, and have taken away more human rights in general thanks to the Patriot Act than any 'socialist' or democratic govt ever has.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
If anything, Obama wants to create a "Civilian National Security Force", which I can only imagine being like the NRA except govt mandated. Shouldn't you be all onboard for this?
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we hear that Palin doesn't realize Africa is a continent and not a country, doesn't know who is in NAFTA.... I know it took her 4 tries transferring from college to college to graduate, but I didn't realize she was really that ignorant. I heard a conservative commentator saying that he didn't see what was wrong with that, they can just brief her on all of the info she needs in a few days after electing her (I guess he's just admitting that she's going to be a puppet and no one should care whether she has a clue or not).
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
.............. But still, what the fuck? Why not just elect me, at least I'm not borderline retarded and didn't name any children after classes I took in High School or cities that I've been laid in. And I guarantee I could learn faster than Palin
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
In short, they're all losers. Vote for me. I know I did.

Hillary really pushed health care when she was first lady but was shot down by lobbyists and industry in a massive attack campaign against "socialized" health care citing Canada and UK as examples of bad social health care. Bill Clinton said after his presidency that not getting Health Care reform was one of his regrets as president.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
Fat-asses bastards like Michael Moore say UK/Canadian systems are great, but I know someone from the UK (he's actually one cube over at work) and Canadians who work for the health insurance company I work for that say our system is considerably better.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
With that said, the UK system has gotten a lot better in the past few years. Much lower mortality from emergency heart attack cases that don't get treated in time, lower staph infection rates. Still you have the problem with health care being free, the demand goes through the roof. I think health care needs to be competitive. It should be $50 for an Office Visit. Period. $500 if you break an arm, leg, etc. And if you get a major illness like cancer, $5,000 a year. I don't think these prices should be regulated, I think that's how much it should cost if doctors were forced to compete in a free market. People could then get supplemental insurance on top of that if they wanted it. We ask people to gives us the best quality TVs, cars and elective cosmetic surgery for the most reasonable cost. Why should we not demand the same of health care? Doctors need to lose this sense of entitlement and "I gotta pay off my $1 billion college debt." What happened to doctors being doctors because they wanted to help people?
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
The bailout was a disaster. I'm saying that having lost over $2800 in investments, but I still think it was a bad idea. The difference won't come from taxes necessarily, it just comes from devaluing the dollar. In the short term, that means the dollar does have more purchase power in the international market. In the long term it will be a very bad thing and bite us. If it comes to the point when we can't afford to pay our debt to China, Luxembourger, Japan, the UK and others, we may just not pay it. We could devalue our dollar so much that it would be worthless. That's how wars start.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
It's not that I don't see the connection before socialism and rifles; it's just I don't see the connection with Obama and an increase of socialism. Like I said, Health Care will most likely be contracted out. Almost all insures have a government branch (BlueCross of TN has Riverbend Government) that do all the Medicare contracts. I really don't think that's the solution, but in the end it won't be government that's running it anyway. There is a LOT of socialism in our system all ready. It's not good, but it is there. Republicans may say they'll let you keep your guns, but they'll take all your other rights, take womens' rights and gay rights and write tap you (Obama is guilty of signing a bill to continue the illegal telecom BS, BTW) and track everything you buy so they can prevent any real revolutions. Come to think of it...both parties are guilt of this. This is why the democrats have not fought FISA or illegal wiretapping as hard as they should have.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
You want real change? Buy a gun and start a war, but first, find something worth fighting for. (Cold Play)
